Guayadeque is a free audio player for Linux . It is written in C ++ and uses the GUI toolkit wxWidgets and the multimedia framework GStreamer .

features

installation

Guayadeque can generally be installed under Linux with the distribution-specific package management .

The player can run under the Gnome desktop environment .

surface

After the installation, Guayadeque has a user interface which, with regard to the graphical surface and usability, is an intuitive alternative for Linux systems thanks to numerous analogies to the Windows players Winamp and Foobar2000 . The free adaptation of the surface with tabs and panels that can be positioned almost anywhere is similar to the concept of Foobar2000, whereby the display of the music collection is in parts comparable with the Winamp library.

Database

In particular, large music collections that the player manages in an embedded database system ( SQLite ) should be able to be managed without any problems, with the primary goal of the developer to design a light and fast player.

Range of functions

Some of the features of the player are:

  • Intelligent addition to the playlist based on Last.fm (so-called smart mode, i.e. additional songs are added automatically)
  • the layout can be flexibly adapted (similar to the UI elements in Foobar2000)
  • Access to SHOUTcast streams and any other internet radio station
  • Automatic loading and saving of lyrics from various providers
  • (automatic) cover display and support for integrated ID3 covers
  • Create and manage a complex music collection including album and folder browser
  • Management of podcasts within the music collection possible
  • Assignment of labels for the individual structuring of the music collection
  • Tag editor supported by MusicBrainz
  • Playlist transfer to MP3 player
  • Uninterrupted playback (silence detector / gapless / configurable crossfader )
  • Replay gain support
  • Equalizer
  • Support for plug-ins
  • Translations available for various languages

history

According to the developer, the Guayadeque project was started in 2008 and made available to the public in 2009.

On January 29, 2016, the developer Juan Rios alias anonbeat announced in his discussion forum on the official website that he no longer wanted to develop Guayadeque ("The actual code of guayadeque is not supported anymore") because he was working on a new project - also a Media player - dedicate wool. He recommended all who want to continue using Guayadeque without restriction to keep Ubuntu 14.04 ("If you want to have guayadeque fully working keep ubuntu 14.04").

On May 13, 2016, Rios changed his mind because the porting to the Qt library for the new project was progressing very slowly. He used the opportunity to move to GitHub , to switch to the GStreamer 1.0 framework and to transfer the source code to wxWidgets 3.0. The release of version 0.4.5 brought support for Ubuntu 18.04.

reviews

Jack M. Germain from LinuxInsider.com tested the player in June 2013 and called it an "impressive flyweight" (literally: "Impressive Featherweight").

At Sourceforge, the average user rating was 4.9 out of 5 stars (based on 442 votes, as of January 2, 2014).
