The Gubor Chocolate GmbH from Dettingen unter Teck is a manufacturer of chocolate products . Their blue packaging design is one of their trademarks. Gubor produces u. a. Alcohol-filled pralines and the so-called "silver nut chocolate bar".

history

Gottfried Uebersax (1915–1990) from Oberönz in Switzerland decided to manufacture chocolate products in 1939. At the beginning, the trained pastry chef made the pralines by hand in an extension of his parents' property. Deliveries were made by bike with a trailer. From 1940, his chocolate factory has developed into a serious undertaking to which he gave the name "Gubor" derived from individual letters of the words G ottfried U e b ersax, O be r ÖNZ. In 1942 the first production facility was destroyed by fire. The company was then temporarily relocated to a free-standing garage in nearby Herzogenbuchsee . After the end of the war and the economic boom that followed, the construction of a factory in Langenthal , Switzerland , not far from Oberönz, where it was founded, began. In the completed production facility, Uebersax began to manufacture chocolate, the raw material for its products, from 1947.

Around 1950 he succeeded as First, kirsch to envelop without sugar crust with pure chocolate.

The company expanded and began in 1953 to "conquer" the German market. Übersax founded together with his cousin Hugo Uebersax a branch in Untermünstertal in Breisgau (Black Forest). In 1965 the Gubor company celebrated its 25th anniversary. At the two production sites in Langenthal (CH) and Untermünstertal, over 600 employees were entrusted with the production of chocolate specialties.

The former company founder Gottfried Uebersax died in 1990 at the age of 74.

Company takeovers

In 1968 the Gubor chocolate factory in the Black Forest was taken over by Bahlsen . In 1971, Lindt & Sprüngli bought the Swiss location in Langenthal and took over production. Gubor temporarily became a purely German brand. In 1973, another company location was opened in Müllheim near Freiburg. From 1982 onwards, Oliver Cersovsky, who together with his brother took over the Gubor brand rights in 2008, completed his three-year training as a specialist in confectionery technology at the Gubor factories in Müllheim and Untermünstertal.

In 1991 the US chocolate giant Hershey’s , the world 's largest chocolate manufacturer, took over the company and sold it in 1997 to the Finnish Leaf Group (then a subsidiary of Huhtamaki ). In 1999 the Stollwerck company took over the Gubor brand with the factories in Müllheim and Untermünstertal, which in turn was bought up in 2002 by the Belgian company Barry Callebaut , which became the owner of the brand. In 2003, Barry Callebaut closed the two Baden production sites in Müllheim and Untermünstertal and relocated production entirely to a branch of the company in Norderstedt .

In 2005, Genuport Trade took over the brand and distribution rights from Gubor. Production continued in Norderstedt in northern Germany. At the end of 2007, the production of Gubor products was discontinued. The trademark rights went back to Barry Callebaut.

Start-up

In 2008 the Swabian Rübezahl Schokoladen GmbH (brothers Claus and Oliver Cersovsky) took over the Gubor trademark rights. Around 2010, the then three-star chef Harald Wohlfahrt was an advertising medium for Gubor. A large part of the range is now produced by the Wergona chocolate factory in Wernigerode . Since 2013 Gubor ingredients from the Black Forest used: milk powder Schwarzwaldmilch , black forest fruit preparations and Black Forest brandies. Gubor buys UTZ certified cocoa for his chocolate .

After the Easter business in 2016, Rübezahl finally withdrew the Gubor brand from traditional grocery retail, specialty confectionary shops and department stores. What remains is the seasonal sales of a reduced range via selected drugstore chains (Rossmann) and factory sales all year round.
