The Guckaisee is a small lake in the Hessian Rhön Nature Park approx. 4 km east of Poppenhausen and is located in the Rodholz district .

It is located in the bottom of a valley between Eube in the south and Pferdskopf in the north, while the Wasserkuppe in the northeast rises 2 km away. It is the only naturally formed lake in the Rhön; presumably the stream was dammed by a landslide. Especially on the southern slope of the horse head you can see the rock masses. The lake is fed by the Lütter , which rises about 700 m to the northeast. It used to be used as a fish pond and to make ice for breweries. The Guckaisee is now divided into two parts: the lower part is used as a bathing lake, the upper part is used by a fishing club and entry is prohibited. The water quality of the lake was classified as “excellent” in 2014 by the EU . These offers as well as the existence of a nature trail and the restaurant Guckai-Stuben make it a popular hiking destination in the Rhön. The extra tour “Guckaisee” of the Hochrhöner leads past the lake . The Guckaisee is the largest natural lake in Hessen. Since 1969 it has belonged to the Fulda district , which had the lake and the inn renovated and modernized.
