Gugelturm (2012)

The Gugelturm , also jokingly the new Hotz , is an observation tower on the Gugel (998 m) in the municipality of Herrischried in the Hotzenwald . The building erected by the Black Forest Association between 1971 and 1974 replaced a bell-shaped previous building from 1929/1930. It is 30.5 m high, the viewing platform is at a height of 16 m. Initially, three Douglas firs served as the substructure, but in 1990 they had to be replaced by laminated beams .

The view from the Gugelturm covers the southern Black Forest with the Hotzenwald , the Randen , the High Rhine Valley and the Swiss Jura . With good visibility you can see the Vosges and the Swiss Alps .
