Guido Fanti
Guido Fanti (born May 27, 1925 in Bologna ; † February 11, 2012 ibid) was an Italian politician , the Communist Party of Italy (PCI) and the Partito Democratico della Sinistra (PDS), which among other things was mayor of Bologna, a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) and was a member of the European Parliament .
Life
Fanti, the son of a house painter and a housewife, began studying biology at the University of Bologna after attending school , but had to interrupt his studies because of the Second World War . In November 1943 he deserted from the army and joined the anti-fascist resistance movement as a partisan .
At the end of the Second World War he joined the PCI on April 21, 1945 and worked as a party functionary in the following. After being a member of the 1957 city council was elected by Bologna, took place in 1960 his appointment as secretary of the PCI in the province of Bologna and the Region of Emilia-Romagna and then in 1965 as a member of the party executive of the PCI.
On April 2, 1966, he was elected mayor of Bologna to succeed Giuseppe Dozza and held this office until 1970. He then became the first President of the Emilia-Romagna region in 1970 and carried out numerous reforms in this capacity until the end of his term in 1976 in the various fields. During his regional presidency, the historic city center of Bologna was renovated, suburbanization was dealt with and Bologna Airport was further developed .
After completing his term of office as President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies on July 5, 1976 and was a member of the Chamber of Deputies until July 1, 1987.
At the same time he was also elected a member of the 1st European Parliament in the 1979 European elections and was a member of this until 1989, whereby he was Vice President of the European Parliament during the legislative period of the 2nd European Parliament between 1984 and 1989.
After the PCI was renamed PDS and its political realignment, Fanti withdrew from political life.
