The Guido Fluri Foundation is a Swiss foundation that pursues three goals: combating brain tumors , combating violence against children and public education about schizophrenia . The founder is the entrepreneur Guido Fluri , who himself suffered from a brain tumor. The foundation is based in Cham ZG .

Focus

Brain tumors

The foundation makes it possible, via the Acoustic Neuroma Interest Group (IGAN), to provide information about the treatment options for brain tumors and to offer support to patients and their relatives on various levels. The foundation's ambassador is the presenter and actress Tanja Gutmann , who herself was a victim of a brain tumor.

Violence against children

The historian Thomas Huonker has dealt with this topic since 1986. He originally began with research into the systematic removal of children from Yenish families by the Pro Juventute Foundation . In cooperation with and with the support of the Guido Fluri Foundation, he leads the project “Children's homes in Switzerland - a historical review”. For this purpose, reports from former home children and contract children, contemporary witnesses, files, image sources and literature are used. The foundation has also created the worldkids platform , which enables those affected, relatives and people who recognize violence in our society to exchange ideas. In addition to the historical processing of violence in Swiss children's homes, the foundation also supports projects to prevent violence against children through worldkids. Since 2018, the foundation has supported the research contract for the historical analysis of social welfare in the canton of Zug.

On June 25, 2011, the foundation acquired the empty former children's home in Mümliswil SO, which, as a Mümliswil memorial, has housed an exhibition since 2013 about the history of children in care, contract children and other victims of compulsory welfare measures in Switzerland up to the turn of the millennium.

Swiss politics is also concerned with the issue, especially the parliamentary group "Compulsory welfare measures" under the co-presidency of the national councilors Kurt Fluri , Barbara Schmid-Federer , Hansjörg Walter and Jacqueline Fehr . A first event took place at the beginning of 2012 with the aim of keeping the knowledge of the recent social and fundamental rights past present and creating a political space for dealing with the events. Part of it is also a pending postulate by Jacqueline Fehr. In 2013, Guido Fluri announced a popular initiative. This " reparation initiative" was launched on April 1, 2014. The required number of certified signatures (over 100,000) was collected by mid-December 2014, well before the end of the one and a half year collection period, often from those affected by compulsory welfare measures themselves. The signatures were handed over to the Federal Chancellery on December 19, 2014. The Federal Council submitted an indirect counter-proposal in 2015. This counter-proposal was adopted almost unanimously by the Council of States in September 2016.

In 2017, Guido Fluri founded an advice center for those affected by the KESB (Child and Adult Protection Authority) to help parents deal with the authority, the so-called Kescha. As a contact point for child and adult protection, the Kescha advised around 1,100 people who were affected by a measure by the KESB in the first year of its existence. In addition to the Guido Fluri Foundation, Integras (Association for Social and Special Education), the Foundation for Child Protection Switzerland, the Children's Advocacy Office, Pach (foster and adopted children in Switzerland), the Pro Senectute and the Kokes (conference for child and adult protection). The Federal Office of Justice welcomes the creation of the kescha.

schizophrenia

The foundation is committed to more public education about schizophrenia and is also involved in research and coexistence with schizophrenic people. Another aim is to promote understanding of this disease among the general public.

Others

The areas of activity of the foundation are closely linked to the biography of the founder Guido Fluri . In 2017, Guido Fluri received the Cham champion award in the "Social" category.

In 2018, Guido Fluri received an honorary doctorate from the theological faculty of the University of Lucerne. The laudation honors Guido Fluri on behalf of everyone who is committed to justice and reconciliation.

In the course of the Corona crisis, the Guido Fluri Foundation launched a medical emergency aid project in cooperation with the Swiss Evangelical Church in March 2020.

The foundation's financing comes from the founder's real estate and investment transactions.
