Thomas Huonker

Thomas Huonker (born May 20, 1954 in Zurich ; legal domicile there ) is a Swiss historian and politician ( SP ).

biography

Thomas Huonker, a son of the journalist and politician Gustav Huonker , graduated from the Rämibühl secondary school in Zurich and studied history, German-language literature and ethnology at the universities of Zurich and Geneva . 1982 doctorate he attended the University of Zurich Dr. phil. Huonker works as an independent historian and has also been involved in teaching for a long time. He is a member of the Swiss Society for History , was a member of the round table for the victims of compulsory welfare measures from 2013 to 2015 and of the Independent Expert Commission for the Scientific Review of Administrative Care Before 1981 from 2014 to 2019. His writings include the German cultural historian Eduard Fuchs , the history of Roma , Sinti and Yeniche , forced sterilization and administrative care , children in homes and contract children in Switzerland as well as other areas of cultural and social history .

From 1990 to 1998 he was a Cantonal Councilor in Zurich . He is married and has two daughters and a son. His daughter Laura Huonker is a theater maker and has also been a member of the Cantonal Council for the Alternative List since 2015 .
