history

In 1413 the combing register for Fronhof Lindlar names the place with the place name "Schelmenroede". In the map Topographical Survey of the Rhineland from 1825 Unter- and Oberschelmenrath are recorded with the common place name Schelmenrath. From the Prussian first recording in 1845, the place name Unterschelmenrath is used.
