Haus Ley is a place in the municipality of Engelskirchen in the Oberbergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Location and description

The place is in the east of Engelskirchen north of the Agger . Neighboring towns are Hardt , Ründeroth , Bellingroth and Unterkaltenbach . The place houses the former moated castle, also called Haus Ley .

history

In 1370 the place was first mentioned under the name of Lyen by a Siegburg abbot in connection with a fiefdom. The buildings at the address “Haus Ley 1” are under monument protection. They used to belong to a moated castle. In the Prussian first recording from 1845 a stone building or a castle is noted. The moated castle was mentioned as early as the 15th century.
