history

Industrial archaeological finds extend mainly to the Kastor, Loope and Kaltenbach rooms. A considerable mining activity had developed here beyond the medieval hammer mills.

Castor Pit

Kastor was part of the former municipality of Hohkeppel until December 31, 1974 and became more important in the 19th century as the Castor mine . In 1861, in front of the mouth of the deep tunnel, a processing plant for processing the material to be conveyed from the Castor mine was built. It remained in operation until 1926.

Since the ores with Loren on the other side of Agger brought had to be built from 1860 to 1870 a wooden swing bridge or suspension bridge . The owner of the land had not allowed a solid wooden bridge, so the carts were driven over the bridge with great care. The bridge has been renewed several times and still brings back memories of the operation of the Castor mine.
