Remerscheid is a village in Engelskirchen in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the North Rhine-Westphalian administrative district of Cologne in Germany .
Location and description
The village is about three kilometers from Engelskirchen. It can be reached via the Bundesautobahn 4 Köln - Olpe , exit Engelskirchen.
history
The place Remerscheid was first mentioned in a document around 1535 as "Reymmerst" . At that time there are seven taxpayers in a tax list for the parish of Ründeroth .
Attractions
Some old half-timbered houses can be seen, some of which date back to 1733 .
The Wallefelder Höhle is located southeast of Remerscheid ( cadastral number 4910/001). It is about 120 meters long and is considered to be of geoscientific value. In terms of fauna, it is considered the most important cave in the Oberbergisches Land. There are a large number of swarming bats with seven species. It is the Natura 2000 protected area DE-4910-301. Since 1989 the cave has been explored by the Kluterthöhle working group . In the meantime, the property has been acquired by the Kluterthöhle working group to ensure the permanent protection of the geotope. In 2011, the cave was more than doubled due to new discoveries. In 2012 the cave was completely re-measured.
The cave is locked and can only be viewed from the outside.
Personalities
The expressionist painter Fritz Schaefler b. on December 31, 1888 in Eschau / Spessart, died April 24, 1954 in Cologne, lived and worked from 1942 until his death in Remerscheid.

Hiking trails run around Remerscheid. Forest and meadows characterize the natural village, its own spring supplies most of the residents. A restaurant with a bowling alley is available. The "Wallefeld" natural open-air swimming pool is located within walking distance of Remerscheid and is managed independently by the village community and operated as an association.
tradition
The youth of Remerscheid have been organizing egg singing on Pentecost Saturday for several generations . Eggs and money are collected for the Bethanien Children's Village in Lustheide and the youngsters are greeted with a small aperitif at each house.
Association
- The Remerscheid Beautification Association organizes u. a. the Easter fire at the forest festival area, pumpkin carving for Halloween , the St. Martin's fire with the children's lantern parade and the Christmas market in the oak forest.
