Obersteeg is a place in the municipality of Engelskirchen in the Oberbergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Location and description

The place is in the southwest of Engelskirchen. The neighboring village is Steeg , located in the Agger valley .

history

In the map of the Topographical Survey of the Rhineland from 1825, a village is recorded at the location of today's Obersteg. However, the place name here is "Stiefelhagen". In 1413 the first documentary mention of this place (as well as the neighboring place Steeg) takes place in the combing register for the Fronhof Lindlar.

On January 1, 1975, as a result of the local reorganization in accordance with Section 13 (1) of the Cologne Act, the previously independent communities of Engelskirchen and Ründeroth were merged to form the new community of Engelskirchen. The Stiefelhagen northeast of Ründeroth could keep its name.
