Wahlscheid is a village in Engelskirchen in the Oberbergisches Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The place is in the northeast of Engelskirchen on the border with the urban area of Gummersbach . Neighboring places are Thal , Wallefeld , as well as the places Apfelbaum and Rodt belonging to Gummersbach .

The formerly independent district of Gosse belongs to the district .

history

The place "Walscheid" appears for the first time in a document from Archbishop Rainald von Dassel in 1166. The place was also mentioned in a document in 1492. The document says: "Among the people coming from the country from the Mark to Homburg, Mettel van Walscheyt is mentioned." The spelling of the first mention : Walscheyt

The formerly independent district of Gosse was located in the southwest of Wahlscheid. The place name Gosse was used in topographic maps until 1974. From the map of 1979 this place name is no longer used.
