Guido Venturoni (born April 10, 1934 in Teramo ) is a retired Italian admiral . As Chief of Staff of the Italian Armed Forces (1994–1999), he implemented far-reaching reforms in the military command structures.

Military career

Venturoni attended the Naval Academy from 1952 to 1956 and initially served on warships of the Italian Navy . From 1958 to 1959 he participated in the United States at a pilot training part, during which he also approval for aircraft carriers received. For political reasons, however, he was never able to use this license because the Italian Air Force denied the Navy the use of combat aircraft. Later he flew helicopters with the naval aviators . He commanded corvettes , frigates , the cruiser Andrea Doria and a naval squadron. In addition, he headed various staffs.

From February 1992 to December 1993 Venturoni was Admiral's Chief of Staff.

In early January 1994 he succeeded General Domenico Corcione on the post of Chief of Staff of the Italian Armed Forces. He prepared a far-reaching structural reform of the armed forces, which was implemented in 1997. Above all, the general staff of the armed forces was upgraded and developed into a central management tool. The branches of the armed forces were assigned more supportive tasks. Venturoni's work continued from February 1999 onwards General Mario Arpino . Admiral Venturoni became chairman of the NATO Military Committee on May 6, 1999 . His military career ended in July 2002. In the years that followed, Venturoni worked in a management or advisory role in the defense industry. In February 2013, he became Vice President of Finmeccanica .
