The Gujarat Lions (often just called Lions or GL ) are a former Indian cricket team that represented the city of Rajkot and the state of Gujarat in the Indian Premier League . The team was re-established together with the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise in 2015 on the occasion of the 9th edition of the IPL (2016). This was necessary because the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings teams were suspended from the Indian Premier League for 2 years due to a betting scandal. The home stadium is the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium . After the 2017 Indian Premier League , it was announced that the Lions would no longer be eligible to play for the IPL for the coming season.
