The Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) was an Indian cricket team . The team represented the city of Pune in the Indian Premier League . The home stadium was the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Due to a severe drought in India during the IPL, it was decided that the RPS matches would be held in the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium had to be relocated. The team was re-established in 2015 together with the Gujarat Lions for the 2016 season. The re-establishment was necessary because the two teams Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were excluded from the IPL for 2 years due to a betting scandal. The new franchise took over many players and coaches from the Chennai Super Kings. The Supergiants finished their first IPL season in 7th position and qualified for the final in the second. After the Indian Premier League 2017 it was announced that RPS will no longer be eligible to play for the IPL for the coming season.
