Gunjur (spelling variant: Gunjar ) is a town in the West African state of Gambia .

According to a calculation for 2013, there are around 22,244 inhabitants, the result of the last published census from 1993 was 9,983.

Gunjur is located in the West Coast Region , Kombo South District , about three kilometers from the Atlantic coast and about ten kilometers from Sanyang . After Brikama the distance is about 16 kilometers.

Town twinning

A town twinning with Marlborough in the United Kingdom had existed since the 1980s and was banned by the Gambian authorities in July 2013.

Culture and sights

In Gunjur, holy and religious stones are known as a place of worship under the name Kenye-Kenye Jamango , it was the place of prayer of Omar Saidu Tall . The cult site Tengworo is also located here.
