Gunnar Berntsen (born October 30, 1977 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Berntsen played for FC Viktoria from Frankfurt at the beginning of his football career . In 2000 he moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga FC Energie Cottbus . He was not used for the first two seasons. Berntsen made his debut in Germany's top division on matchday 33 of the 2002/03 season. He was preferred by coach Eduard Geyer to goalkeeper André Lenz . At this point in time, FC Energie was already relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga . Berntsen was also allowed to play for Cottbus on the last day of the match.

André Lenz left the club after the season and coach Geyer first relied on the veteran Tomislav Piplica as the goalkeeper and later on the newly signed Georg Koch . Berntsen only made a short 30-minute assignment on the first matchday. After the season Georg Koch left the club and Berntsen was again number two behind Piplica. After a cruciate ligament rupture the previous season, he had found a connection again. On the third day of the 2004/05 season, Piplica was injured and so Berntsen was in goal for Cottbus until the winter break. During the winter break he tore a cruciate ligament again and was out until the end of the season. Cottbus extended the contract with Berntsen by one year, but he did not get another professional assignment. In 2006 Berntsen ended his football career.

In 2015 Berntsen received his doctorate from the Brandenburg Technical University .
