Gunter Péus

Gunter Péus (* 1931 in Hanover ) is a German television journalist, foreign correspondent and art collector .

Life

After finishing high school in Alfeld (Leine) , Gunter Péus initially did an internship at the Norddeutsche Zeitung (West). Péus studied modern history, sociology and constitutional law in Hanover, Hamburg and most recently in Philadelphia . From 1969, Péus was the foreign correspondent for ZDF south of the Sahara for 14 years. He was the first correspondent for ZDF in this region. G. Péus was also head of the ZDF regional studio in Hamburg for five years.

During his studies in Hamburg he was the AStA chairman .

Collection Péus

With over a thousand objects, the Péus Collection is one of the most important collections of modern African art worldwide and has already been shown in special exhibitions at various locations. The spectrum of regional art of the second half of the 20th century from numerous African countries is covered. The start of the touring exhibition “Habari Africa!” Together with the Reinhard Klektiven collection in the Kunsthalle Dominikanerkirche in Osnabrück caused a stir in 2010 . The accusation expressed by Focus magazine that the works from the Reinhard Klektiven collection (not Péus' note) were copies and forgeries could not be confirmed.
