description

Canteens are typically made of metal , wood , glass , leather , ceramic or plastic .

The canteens are mostly of a flat shape and earlier provided with a convex made of leather or felt in order to maintain the temperature of the liquid they contain longer. They also had eyelets for pulling a string or a belt through .

Canteens must be light in weight and at the same time robust against bumps and blows. They must have a simple closure, be able to hold cold and warm liquids and be easy to clean. For this reason, from the late 19th century onwards, canteens were mainly made of aluminum .

The more recent form of water transport is the drinking system consisting of a water-storing bag (water bag) with a drinking tube, which also allows drinking during the march and is used in military equipment in addition to hiking and trekking.
