Gurlitt is the surname of a German family of well-known artists, scientists and art dealers:

  1. Johann Gottfried Gurlitt (1754–1827) - German philologist and educator
  2. Johann August Wilhelm Gurlitt (1774–1855) - master gold wire drawer and manufacturer. Son of Gottlieb Wilhelm Gurlitt and Katharina Ester Gurlitt (née Stumfeld). Wife Helene (née Eberstein), they had 16 children.
    1. Emanuel Gurlitt (1826-1896) - German watchmaker, chairman of the Association of Advance and Credit Associations in Northwest Germany, Mayor of Husum, native poet, close friends with Theodor Storm .
    2. Cornelius Gurlitt (1820–1901) - German composer and conductor.
    3. Louis Gurlitt (1812–1897) - German landscape painter, first marriage (from 1837) to the Danish Elise (née Saxild, † 1839), second marriage (from 1843) to Julie (née Bürger, † 1844) from Mannheim, in third Marriage (from 1847) married to Elisabeth (née Lewald), a sister of the most important Vormärz writer Fanny Lewald .
      1. Wilhelm Gurlitt (1844–1905) - German professor of classical archeology in Graz, from 1900 head of the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein, married Mary Labat.
      2. Cornelius Gurlitt (1850–1938) - German architect and art historian, founder of baroque research in German art history.
        1. Wilibald Gurlitt (1889–1963) - German musicologist, editor of the newly edited music lexicon of his former teacher Hugo Riemann .
        2. Cornelia Gurlitt (1890-1919) - German expressionist painter.
        3. Hildebrand Gurlitt (1895–1956) - German art historian and art dealer, one of the four official “exploiters” during the Nazi era who were allowed to trade in confiscated works of art. Married to the dancer Helene Hanke (1895–1968).
          1. Cornelius Gurlitt (1932–2014) - German art collector, 2013 at the center of the Schwabing art discovery .
          2. Benita Gurlitt (1935–2012) - art historian.
      3. Friedrich "Fritz" Gurlitt (1854–1893) - German art dealer and Berlin gallery owner, married Annarella Imhoff, a daughter of the sculptor Heinrich Max Imhof . Opened Germany's first Impressionist exhibition.
        1. Wolfgang Gurlitt (1888–1965) - German art collector and gallery owner, like his cousin Hildebrand, he presumably also supplied paintings that were to be used for the " Führer Museum " planned by Hitler in Linz, later founding director of the New Gallery of the City of Linz .
        2. Manfred Gurlitt (1890–1972) - German composer, conductor and music teacher. Son of Annarella and Fritz - or her second husband Willi Waldecker.
