Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh (born August 15, 1967 in Sri Gurusar Modia , Rajasthan ) is an Indian Guru . Since 1990 he has headed the Dera Sacha Sauda spiritual movement , which he claims is around 60 million people. Singh has also published a number of films related to his movement and his views, in which he has worked as an actor , director , screenwriter and composer of film music . Critics refer to these films as poor quality propaganda .

After he was suspected of murder and forced castration, he was convicted of rape on August 25, 2017 . On August 28, 2017, the sentence of twenty years in prison was pronounced. The process was accompanied by great unrest.

Singh has been a member of the Dera Sacha Sauda movement since he was seven years old. He has four children with his wife Harjeet Kaur. His adopted daughter Harminder Singh Jassi took part in his films.

Singh is committed to the fight against various diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure . He is also committed to cleanliness and hygiene. His use against drugs, alcohol and prostitution are referred to as "crusades" in a report by the CBI that investigated him. After disasters, he set up a specially designed aid agency as part of his movement.

At events with his followers, he has set several world records with some of them , according to the Guinness Book .

Singhs Dera generally gives election recommendations. While Singh initially supported the Congress Party , he is currently in favor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Again and again there were conflicts and mutual accusations with the Sikh religion.
