Gussy Hippold-Ahnert
Gussy Erika Edith Hippold-Ahnert , b. Ahnert, (born March 3, 1910 in Berlin ; † January 7, 2003 in Dresden ) was a German painter and master student of Otto Dix .
Live and act
Gussy Ahnert grew up in Dresden-Wachwitz from 1912 and received piano and drawing lessons as a child. Drawings from childhood days and sketchbooks by the young people have survived. Ahnert studied for two years in the studio of the Dresden landscape painter Hanns Herzing , after which she studied between 1929 and 1933 at the Dresden Academy of Arts in the drawing class of Richard Müller and Hermann Dittrich . She was particularly influenced by Otto Dix, with whom she was an apprentice from 1930 and a master class student from 1932 . The early work of the Dix student, such as the painting Reclining Nude from 1931, shows her closeness to the New Objectivity or to Dix's Verism . She reached her artistic peak in 1932/1933 when she developed a painting style of her own, unmistakable, in the glaze technique taught by Dix.
Belonging to the so-called “lost generation”, she left the academy with Otto Dix in 1933 and in the same year moved to Niederlößnitz , now a district of Radebeul , where she initially lived at 11 Rennerbergstrasse . In Radebeul in 1936 she married the painter Erhard Hippold , whom she had met in 1931. From 1945 both lived in the “ Sorgefrei” house in the Radebeul district of Oberlößnitz , where they both took over their father's corsetry workshop, which was their only source of income. Hippold-Ahnert no longer returned to elaborate glaze painting, but instead devoted himself to pastels and watercolors, among other things. She depicted the Loessnitz several times in her paintings. Hippold-Ahnert's late work is closely related to the works of her husband Erhard Hippold and other artists from this region and time. In 1972 Fritz Löffler rediscovered her early work, which was shown at a number of personal exhibitions over the following years, including the Galerie Kühl .
The poet and essayist Heinz Czechowski immortalized them literarily with his poem Radebeul, Haus Sorgefrei in 1973. His friend at the time, the lyric poet Wulf Kirsten , also immortalized the painter and her residence in 1974 with the words “The painter Gussy Hippold lives in the faded mansion of the“ Sorge-free ”mansion. ... puffed up mountains of pure art, grown in the shadow of time ... "
At the beginning of the 1990s Hippold-Ahnert, who had been widowed since 1972 and was visually impaired in old age, moved to Dresden-Gorbitz and died in Dresden in 2003. She was buried anonymously in the Heidefriedhof .
Her paintings are among others in the possession of the municipal art collection Radebeul . On the occasion of her 100th birthday, the Radebeul City Gallery dedicated a memorial exhibition to her under the title Grown in the shadow of times .
