Gussy Holl , actually Auguste Marie Holl (born February 22, 1888 in Frankfurt am Main , German Empire ; † July 16, 1966 in Salzburg , Austria ) was an actress and diseuse . She worked in some films from the silent era.

Life

Holl married actor Conrad Veidt in 1918 , from whom she divorced in 1922. In her second marriage, she was married to Emil Jannings from 1923 until his death in 1950. From 1926 to 1929 she and her husband spent three years in Hollywood. In 1929 she returned to Germany.

As a singer of chansons in the 1920s , she was known to numerous literary celebrities, such as Kurt Tucholsky and Carl Zuckmayer . Zuckmayer characterized "the Holl" as "lady and 'fellow' at the same time", Tucholsky called her next to Goethe the "second great man that Frankfurt produced".
