Gustav von Bergmann Medal
The Gustav von Bergmann Medal was the highest award of the German Society for Internal Medicine (DGIM). Between 1994 and 2010 members of the society were awarded for their life's work.
The Gustav von Bergmann Medal was named after the internist Gustav von Bergmann (1878–1955). In 2013 the DGIM reassessed Bergmann's lifetime achievement. As vice dean at the Berlin Charité in 1933, he implemented in the faculty that all Jews were released. From 2013, the DGIM awards in place of Gustav von Bergmann Medal , the Leopold-Lichtwitz medal in memory of the Jews Leopold Lichtwitz was (1876-1943), the 1933 Chairman of the DGIM, but the company - like many other Jews - had to leave under pressure from the board.
