Pedro Cardinal Segura y Sáenz (born December 4, 1880 in Carazo , Spain , † April 8, 1957 in Madrid ) was Archbishop of Burgos , Toledo and Seville .

Life

Pedro Segura y Sáenz received his theological and philosophical training in Burgos and Comillas . He received on 9 June 1906, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a seminary teacher and community chaplains in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Burgos . From 1912 to 1916 he was a member of the Catholic theological faculty of the University of Valladolid and worked in the administration of the Archdiocese of Valladolid . In 1916 Pope Benedict XV appointed him . the titular bishop of Apollonia and auxiliary bishop in Valladolid. The Bishop ordination received Pedro Segura y Saenz by the Archbishop of Valladolid, José Cardinal Cos y Macho .

In 1920 Pedro Segura y Sáenz became Bishop of Coria , in 1926 Archbishop of Burgos, in 1927 Archbishop of Toledo. Pope Pius XI took him on December 19, 1927 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Trastevere in the college of cardinals . In 1928 he was awarded the Grand Cross with Collane of the Order of Charles III. excellent.

In 1931 Pedro Segura y Sáenz was forced to leave the country by the Republican government of Spain and fled to Rome. He laid down the leadership of the Archdiocese of Toledo. In 1937 he was able to return to the "national" part of Spain held by Franco's troops during the Spanish Civil War and became Archbishop of Seville. Pedro Segura y Sáenz took part in the 1939 conclave .

He died in Madrid on April 8, 1957 and was buried in Seville.
