Gustav Adler

Gustav Adler (born June 26, 1891 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † January 18, 1963 ) was a German businessman, association official and local politician.

Career

He was the son of the Freiburg merchant and city councilor Gustav Adler (1857-1928) and his wife Mathilde (née Zipfel, 1861-1922). After completing secondary school, Adler attended the technical center for the textile industry in Reutlingen and then worked as a textile merchant and, from 1928, as owner of his parents' textile company "Woll-Adler" in Freiburg.

Adler was chairman of the center faction in the Freiburg citizens' committee until 1933 . After he was brought into line , he retained his mandate and remained in the citizens' committee until it was repealed on March 6, 1934. After the failed attempt on Hitler's death on July 20, 1944 , he was temporarily imprisoned.

After the Second World War , Adler was President of the Baden Retail Association , Vice President from 1961, and a member of the Presidium Council at the federal level. From 1946 to 1950 he was President of the Freiburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry , then its Vice-President. From 1953 he was again a city councilor in Freiburg for the CDU .

Gustav Adler was married to Hedwig (née Bitzenhofer, 1901–1988). The couple had four children.
