Gustav Binder

Gustav Binder (born March 31, 1854 in Heilbronn ; † March 27, 1935 there ) was a master flasher , a long-time councilor and fire brigade commander . From 1925 to 1934 he was chairman of the Württemberg fire brigade association and in 1928 became an honorary citizen of Heilbronn.

biography

Binder was born the son of a Heilbronn bottle maker and learned his father's profession after leaving school. In the 1870s he wandered in Wiesbaden and Iserlohn , after which he did his military service in Ludwigsburg and Potsdam . Back in Heilbronn in 1878 he took over the bottling factory of his father, who had died in 1873, in Gerberstrasse, joined the Heilbronn volunteer fire brigade and married Lina Katharina Metzger, with whom he later had three children. In 1895/96 he, now head master of the Heilbronn bottle guild, which he co-founded, built a new residential and workshop building on Frankfurter Strasse. In 1896 he was elected to the Heilbronn municipal council, where he was also deputy mayor from January to March 1904. In 1906 he was appointed commander of the Heilbronn volunteer fire brigade, in 1917 district fire fighting inspector and in 1925 chairman of the Württemberg fire brigade association. In 1930 he was again the deputy mayor of Heilbronn, and in the following year he did not run for the municipal council election. On March 31, 1933, Binder resigned from all public offices. After his 80th birthday, he also resigned as a fire brigade commander in April 1934. After his death in March 1935, he was buried in the Heilbronn main cemetery.

Appreciation

Binder became an honorary citizen of the city of Heilbronn in 1928 after 50 years of service with the Heilbronn fire brigade and due to his services to the expansion of fire protection. When he said goodbye as fire brigade commander in 1934 he became honorary commander of the Heilbronn volunteer fire brigade, honorary chairman of the Württemberg fire brigade association and honorary member of the German Reich fire brigade association . In addition, Gustav-Binder-Strasse in Heilbronn was named after him in 1949 .

Gustav Binder Fire Brigade Foundation

On the occasion of the 17th Württemberg State Fire Brigade Day in Heilbronn in 1930, the Württemberg Fire Brigade Association established the Gustav Binder Foundation to support firefighters in need. In 1972 the Fire Brigade Acknowledgment Foundation was merged into the Gustav Binder Foundation. The foundation was renamed the Gustav Binder Fire Brigade Foundation in 2005 .
