Gustav Binz (politician)

Gustav Binz (born February 9, 1849 in Mahlberg ; † November 6, 1937 in Achern ) was a German politician ( National Liberal Party ). From 1897 to 1908 he was a member of the Baden state parliament .

Life

Gustav Binz was the son of the master cooper as well as the farmer and innkeeper Leopold Binz and grew up in a middle class. In his parents' house, emphasis was placed on humanistic education . So he passed his Abitur in 1869 as the best in his class. He then studied law at the universities of Freiburg and Heidelberg . In 1876 he received his doctorate in Heidelberg and in 1877 he established himself as a lawyer in Karlsruhe . He was chairman of the bar association for ten years and was a member of the board for a total of 24 years. In 1917 he retired .

From 1877 he became involved in the national liberal party. For this he was elected to the city council of Karlsruhe in 1896, to which he belonged until 1919. In 1897 he was first elected to the Baden state parliament, where he worked until 1908 , first as a member of the city of Durlach , then as a member of Karlsruhe.

In addition to his work as a politician and lawyer, he was also a member of the supervisory board of the Schrempp brewery and was chairman of Sinner AG and the Privatsparkasse Karlsruhe.

He died in 1937.

Awards

In 1902 he was honored with the Order of the Zähringer Lion , which was awarded to him again in 1906 with the oak leaves. In 1917 he was appointed Privy Councilor by Grand Duke Friedrich II . A street in Karlsruhe was named after him during his lifetime.

Private life

From his marriage to Ida Breithaupt, the daughter of the Mayor of Malterdingen , Gustav Breithaupt , two daughters and the son Rudolf Binz emerged.
