The Gustav Bull Mountains are a small group of un-iced, rugged mountain peaks and nunatakkers in East Antarctica Mac Robertson Land . They are 6 km inland from the coast and 16 km southwest of the Scullin Monolith .
Norwegian whalers discovered them between January and February 1931 during reconnaissance trips along this coast. They named her as Gustav Bullfjella after Gustav B. Bull, whaling manager on board the ship Thorshammer . As early as January 1930, participants in the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (1929–1931), headed by the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson, had flown over this area. They returned in February 1931 for further exploration and gave their names to individual geographical objects in these mountains. These include Mount Hinks , Mount Kennedy , Mount Marsden, and Mount Rivett . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Norwegian naming of the mountains into English in 1947.
