Gustav Casmir

Gustav Casmir (born November 5, 1872 in Nikolaiken Kreis Sensburg , † November 2, 1910 in Schöneiche-Fichtenau ) was a German fencer .

Originally from Nikolaiken , Casmir took part in the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis , where he finished fourth in the individual competitions with the sword and the foil . Two years later he was part of the German team at the interludes in Athens . Here he became the most successful German participant with two gold and two silver medals. He was victorious in the three-hit saber competition and with the German saber team. In the final of the saber competition on one hit he was defeated by the Greek Olympic champion from 1896, Ioannis Georgiadis ; the foil individual final he lost against the French Georges Dillon-Cavanagh .

Gustav Casmir's nephew, Erwin Casmir , trained with his uncle in Dresden from 1908 to 1910. Gustav Casmir died of a brain disease.
