Gustav Ernst von Kamptz , actually Gustav von Kamptz (baptized March 12, 1763 in Klein Plasten ; † August 13, 1823 in Mirow ) was a German administrative lawyer, botanist and entomologist.

Life

Gustav Ernst von Kamptz (No. 191 of the gender census ) was the youngest son of the landowner Christoph Albrecht von Kamptz (1712–1765; # 172) and his wife (Sophia) Charlotta (1719–1778), daughter of the lawyer and Swedish tribunal assessor Hermann Albrecht von Schuckmann. Kamptz inherited the Mecklenburg estates of Klein Plasten (until 1785), Rockow and Eickhof (until 1789) from his father.

Kamptz attended the Knight Academy in Lüneburg and studied law at the universities of Leipzig and Kiel before entering the administrative service of the sub-duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz . He died in 1823 as the ducal chamberlain of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Landdrost (since 1798) and since 1815 as chief captain of Mirow of dropsy of the breast .

In 1787 he married Sophie (Elenore Elisabeth) von Holstein (1768–1839), daughter of the Danish colonel Carl von Holstein and lady-in-waiting of Princess Christiane von Mecklenburg-Strelitz . The couple had six children. Gustav (Ernst) and his five brothers brought together 55 children and thus ensured the continuation of their sex; his son Georg Eduard Magnus von Kamptz (1791-1854) continued this branch of the von Kamptz family .

Kamptz worked as a natural scientist and entomologist and published some writings on Mecklenburg natural history, including in the useful articles on the New Strelitz advertisements . As an entomologist and botanist, he first described numerous species.
