Karl Gustav Groß (born June 28, 1852 in Reutlingen ; † June 26, 1944 ibid) was a German entrepreneur in the textile industry as well as a local and state politician.

family

Gustav Groß was the son of the Reutlingen merchant Gustav Groß (1824–1888) and his wife Rosine Paulina Groß born. Finck (1830-1910). He had four siblings. Since 1882 he was born with Carolina. Steinbring (1859–1927) married; they had two children.

life and work

Gustav Groß attended the Latin school and the secondary school in Reutlingen. He then studied from 1869 to 1871 at the Stuttgart Polytechnic . In 1871 and 1972 he attended the weaving school in Mulhouse in Alsace. In 1872/1873 he completed his military service as a one-year volunteer with the 8th Württemberg Infantry Regiment No. 126 (later: Infantry Regiment "Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden" (8th Württembergisches) No. 126 ) in Strasbourg in Alsace. Gustav Groß was a cloth manufacturer in Reutlingen from 1874.

In addition, he was in command of the Reutlingen Volunteer Fire Brigade from 1892 to 1902. Groß took an active part in the development of the technical center for the textile industry and was chairman of the supervisory board of the former weaving school association from 1918 to 1925. On the occasion of the award of honorary citizenship , the city of Reutlingen particularly emphasized its services to the Reutlingen retirement home.

politics

Groß had been a member of the citizens' committee since 1890 and later of the Reutlingen municipal council . He was elected to the Württemberg state parliament in 1912 in the Reutlingen (city) constituency. He was a member of the People's Democratic Party .

In 1918 he was a founding member of the German Democratic Party . After the end of the monarchy, Groß was a member of the state constitutional assembly from 1919 to 1920 and thus played a key role in founding the People's State of Württemberg .

Honors

  • In 1929 the city of Reutlingen awarded Gustav Groß an honorary citizen .
