Gustav Sixt (born September 19, 1856 in Schwäbisch Hall , Kingdom of Württemberg ; † August 2, 1904 in Stuttgart , Kingdom of Württemberg) was a German high school teacher and archaeologist .

life and work

Sixt was the in 1871 state examination and visited then from 1871 to 1875 as a scholarship the Lower Theological seminaries in Maulbronn and Blaubeuren . After passing the bankruptcy examination in 1875, he studied classical philology at the University of Tübingen as a member of the monastery . This, he graduated in 1879 and 1880 and was in 1880 with his dissertation De Jove Home Rico Dr. phil. PhD. He then started working as an assistant teacher at the Karls-Gymnasium in Stuttgart. A scientific trip took him to Italy in the winter of 1881/82. In 1883 he got his permanent job as a professor at the secondary school in Ulm . In 1887, however, he returned to the Karls-Gymnasium in Stuttgart, where he stayed for the following 17 years. It corresponded to his inclinations when he was appointed inspector of the royal coin and medal collection and the Stuttgart lapidarium in 1893. In 1904 he became a member of the commission for the administration of the art and antiquity collection and in 1898 a member of the commission for Württemberg regional history.

The Reich Limes Commission appointed him route commissioner for the route between Jagsthausen and Welzheim . He published the results of his research in this regard primarily in the Limes papers, which have been published since 1892 .

Sixt was the editor of the find reports from Swabia . Together with Ferdinand Haug , he was the editor of the book Die Roman Insschriften und Bildwerke Württembergs published in 1898 and 1900 . In the collective work The Kingdom of Württemberg , he took over the section on antiquities.
