Gustav Stüve

Carl Wilhelm Gustav Stüve (born May 2, 1833 in Osnabrück ; † November 27, 1911 , ibid) was a German lawyer, politician, administrative officer and art collector.

He was born on May 2, 1833 in Osnabrück as the son of the director of the Ratsgymnasium Carl Georg August Stüve (1794–1871) and his wife Leopoldine Friederike Stüve, nee. Meyer (1800–1878), born into an old patrician family. He was a nephew of Johann Carl Bertram Stüve and a great-grandson of Johann Eberhard Stüve .

Life

He attended the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabrück and studied law in Göttingen and Berlin from 1852 to 1855. In 1860 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. He then worked as a lawyer in Osnabrück and later as an administrative officer in Hanover.

Between 1881 and 1888, Stüve was the successor to Karl von Jacobi, President of the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin, his successor was Viktor von Bojanowski (1831-1892). Afterwards he was from 1887 as the successor to Gustav von Gehrmann district president of the Osnabrück administrative district . In addition, he was from 1889 to 1891 as the successor to Harm Hoppen (1826-1908) member of the Prussian House of Representatives in Berlin (17th electoral term) for the constituency of Lingen - Bentheim . He belonged to the Free Conservative Party . However, his mandate was declared invalid in 1891 because of electoral manipulation and was subsequently taken over by Geerd Damink (1844–1915). He held the office of district president of Osnabrück until he retired in 1900. His successor was Georg von Heydebrand and the Lasa .

Stüve was an art collector and art patron. He inherited 39 paintings from his family and acquired more, especially during his time in Berlin, so that the collection grew to 70 paintings. He maintained contact with Wilhelm von Bode . Stüve bequeathed his collection of paintings to the Osnabrück Cultural History Museum . He was chairman of the historical association of the city of Osnabrück from 1888 to 1909 and chairman of the museum association of the city of Osnabrück from 1888 to 1908. In 1908 he was made an honorary member of the museum association.

Gustav Stüve died on November 27, 1911 at the age of 78 in Osnabrück and was buried in the Hasefriedhof there.

family

Stüve was an Evangelical Lutheran denomination. On October 9, 1862, he married Bertha Pagenstecher (1836-1894), daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General Rudolf Pagenstecher and his wife Karoline, née Pütz. The marriage remained childless, so the couple adopted a daughter.
