Johann Eberhard Stüve (born September 8, 1715 in Osnabrück , † November 23, 1798 ibid) was a German lawyer, politician and historian. He wrote a chronicle of the bishopric of Osnabrück .

life and work

Johann Eberhard Stüve studied law in Jena and Halle an der Saale . In 1742 he received his doctorate . From 1743 Stüve worked as a lawyer. From 1762 he was a member of the city council of Osnabrück and from 1768 its syndic .

He wrote a description of the bishopric of Osnabrück including statistics and geography as well as a regent and state history from the foundation of the diocese to 1789, as well as some letters of grace, contracts and other documents. He was the first to interpret Roman coin finds in the Kalkriese area as the remains of the legions of Varus .

Stüve married in 1753, later a second time. His son Heinrich David Stüve had been the mayor of Osnabrück since 1797. Johann Carl Bertram Stüve was Johann Eberhard Stüve's grandson.
