Wiethüchter was not only concerned with painting, but also with applied art. Starting from Art Nouveau , he developed into one of the leading exponents of Rhenish Expressionism . Influences of Ferdinand Hodler , the Expressionists and Cubism can be found in his works, but also echoes of Henri Matisse , Pierre Bonnard and the Fauves .

The artist's work is still largely unexplored. The Von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal owns a large bundle of Wiethuicher's works and would like to sell some of them in order to set up a foundation to research Wiethuicher's life and work.
