Life

Gustave Brion, a student of G. Guérins, mainly created paintings that deal with daily life in the country. The richness of his compositions, the fresh colors and the simple truth of his figures soon made him one of the best genre painters in France. He also worked as an illustrator for the works of Victor Hugo , by whom he was very much appreciated (e.g. Les Misérables ).

Brion was the son of a nephew of Friederike Brion and father of the architect Jacques Albert Brion .
