Gustave Chancel
Gustave Charles Bonaventure Chancel (born January 18, 1822 in Loriol-sur-Drôme , † August 5, 1890 in Montpellier ) was a French chemist .
life and work
After Chancel graduated from the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in Paris , he went to the laboratory of Théophile-Jules Pelouze . In 1848 he became, as the successor to Charles Frédéric Gerhardt , Professor of Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Science in Montpellier. Chancel published the work Precis d'analyse chimique qualitative together with Gerhardt in 1855 . In Montpellier he became doyen (dean) in 1865 and rector of the academy in 1879 . From 1880 he was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Paris.
Chancel developed methods for determining vapor density and for qualitative analysis .
