Gustavo Bueno (philosopher)

Gustavo Bueno , also Gustavo Bueno Martínez (born September 1, 1924 in Santo Domingo de la Calzada , † August 7, 2016 in Barro ) was a Spanish philosopher . He was a professor at the University of Oviedo and a proponent of philosophical materialism .

Life

Gustavo Bueno studied at the universities of Zaragoza and Madrid . In 1947 he received his doctorate from the University of Madrid with the work Fundamento formal y material de la moderna filosofía de la religious with Santiago Montero Díaz (1911–1985). Bueno was from 1949 high school teacher and lecturer at the University of Salamanca . In 1960 he was appointed to the professorship for "Fundamentals of Philosophy and History of Philosophical Systems" at the University of Oviedo . Bueno founded the philosophy magazine El Basilisco . He became known to a wider public in the Spanish-speaking world through his participation in public debates on radio, television and the press. A group of Buenos Aires staff and students committed to philosophical materialism is known in Spain as the Oviedo School . In 1998 a philosophical academy Fundación Gustavo Bueno was founded in Oviedo .

Bueno died in August 2016 at the age of 91, two days after the death of his wife, with whom he had been married for more than 60 years.
