Gustavo Gimeno

Gustavo Gimeno (* 1976 in Valencia ) is a Spanish drummer and conductor .

Gustavo Gimeno studied percussion and was most recently solo percussionist at the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam as assistant to the chief conductor Mariss Jansons there. He had previously gained experience with Bernard Haitink and Claudio Abbado .

Gimeno made his debut as a conductor in Amsterdam, as a substitute for Lorin Maazel with the Munich Philharmonic and other orchestras.

In June 2014, Gimeno was appointed as the successor to Emmanuel Krivine  as the new music director of the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg and took up this position at the beginning of the 2015/2016 season. In March 2017, the Philharmonie Luxembourg announced an extension of the contract, which originally ran until 2019, until 2022.

In September 2018, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra announced the appointment of Gustavo Gimeno as the orchestra's future chief conductor. He will take up the position in 2020.
