Life
Kröner was an apprentice in his father's painting business. His passion for mountaineering was awakened early on. He was known among mountaineers for his daring and borderline risk-taking . He achieved numerous spectacular first ascents and he was one of the most respected alpinists of his time. In 1930 he met Anderl Heckmair . The joint attempt to conquer the north face of the Grandes Jorasses failed, but they managed numerous challenging ascents, including the north face of the Aiguille des Grands Charmoz . Together they also cycled to Morocco and climbed the west ridge of the Jbel Toubkal in the Atlas . While trying to climb the north face of the Matterhorn with Walter Stößer , he died from falling rocks .

Today only a few works by Kröner have survived.
