Gustl Wilke

Gustl Wilke (born April 24, 1944 in Hagen-Wehringhausen ; † January 3, 2013 ) was a German handball player and handball coach who coached the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund for several seasons .

Career

Gustl Wilke ran for VfL Eintracht Hagen . With the field handball team from Eintracht Hagen, he rose to the field handball Bundesliga in 1971 . In 1972 and 1973 he was in the semi-finals of the German field handball championship. With the indoor handball team, Wilke rose to the regional league .

At the age of 18, Wilke trained the A-youth from VfL Eintracht Hagen and from the age of 20 took over the coaching position of DJK Schwarz-Gelb Hagen. Later he coached the UTG Witten, the regional league team VfL Eintracht Hagen, the VfK Iserlohn and the Hasper SV . From 1989 Wilke coached the women's team at Borussia Dortmund, which under his leadership was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1991 and the Bundesliga in 1993. In the 1996/97 season, BVB won the DHB Cup and was in the final of the EHF Cup . After the German runner-up in 1999, Wilke ended his job at BVB. Wilke then worked again as a coach for VfL Eintracht Hagen for two years, which he looked after in the 2nd Bundesliga and regional league. He then acted as the sports director there. In November 2008 Wilke returned to BVB, which he coached until 2011.

In addition to the club teams, Wilke also trained the women's team at the Ruhr University in Bochum , with which he won the German university championship. He continued to work as a sports lecturer at the Ruhr University. He also coached the German women's national student team. In 1995 Wilke worked as an assistant coach for the German national team.
