The Waghorst estate once stood here. The mill pond created here has also disappeared

The Waghorst estate was a manor in Rödinghausen - Bieren in the East Westphalian district of Herford . The estate was next to Haus Kilver and Gut Böckel, which is about a kilometer south and also on Dornmühlenbach , one of the three mansions in today's Rödinghausen community.

history

The Waghorst estate was first mentioned in 1349. Gut Waghorst was sold to Segewin von dem Bussche in 1395 by Omer Vincke , owner of Haus Kilver . For almost 150 years, the man at Gut Waghorst remained with the von dem Bussche family , who initially also owned Gut Böckel. The family had the right of patronage , the right to propose filling the pastorate, at the Bartholomäuskirche and partly financed its expansion. Members of the family are buried in the church. In 1521 the estate fell as an inheritance to the von Korff family , who also owned goods near Lübbecke (an estate in Halstenbek , Gut Renkhausen and a Burgmannsgut in Lübbecke ). The Prussian District Administrator Ernst Wilhelm Georg Heinrich von Korff zu Waghorst was born on Gut Waghorst in 1792. The estate ran into financial difficulties and was sequestered in 1825 and sold by him to Friedrich von der Leye in 1826 .

From 1888 to 1907 the estate was the seat of the Rödinghausen office under honorary officer Meier. Meier leased the estate until a new office building was built in Rödinghausen . In 1927 the writer Hertha Koenig took over the administration of Waghorst and the neighboring Böckel estate. Both estates together had an area of over 500 hectares, making them the largest properties in the Herford district . The estate was demolished in the 1960s. Today only the name Waghorst reminds of the former estate.
