history

The origins of the Grand Lodge go back to brothers who resigned from the Grand Lodge of Austria in the early 1950s, as their Grand Lodge refused to recognize Freemasons on the instructions of the Grand Lodge of England , unless they were expressly authorized by the Grand Lodge of England, although otherwise they followed impeccable masonry principles. The reason for this was the Basic Principles of Grand Lodge Recognition created on September 4, 1929 .

From autumn 1953, they initially only met informally and worked on a form of Masonic work that was new for Austria , until the Independent Masonic Lodge Vienna (UFML) was founded on September 24, 1955 according to strict Masonic principles with a solemn ritual lighting of the light .

In 1961, UFML was one of the founding lodges of CLIPSAS . The jointly signed Strasbourg appeal forms the ideal basis for this international association .

One of the principles of the UFML from the beginning is an understanding of Freemasonry , which also wants to fall back on the old socio-political possibilities. New duties are to be added to the old duties according to James Anderson . These were chartered out in 1974 with the aim of rekindling the flame of enlightenment in a world of contradictions, inhumanity and indifference and to make the light of reason shine more strongly again.

In 14-day lodge meetings, so-called conference work, alternating with the lodge work, the uninitiated were also invited in order to avoid Freemasonry sitting too much in the ivory tower . In 1973, an apolitical-humanitarian association emerged as a platform for getting to know Freemasons and those who were not admitted, for lectures and to promote the exchange of ideas. From 1978 women were increasingly invited to these discussion evenings.

For years, the UFML men's box was debated as to whether it should not implement the liberal principles, for example, regarding the admission of women, so that the brotherhood could become a human union. The initiation of women was discussed in detail and then made possible in a new form.

In 1960 the first attempt of a Greater Orient with the lodges: UFML and its offshoots Van Swieten and Sonnenfels was dared. This construction soon fell apart.

It was not until the beginning of 1985 that the UFML felt strong enough to dare to venture into a large orient . On May 8, 1985, the light in the Lodge Zu den Neue Duties is lit, followed by the Gotthold Ephraim Lodge on June 26, 1985 . On the same day, the three boxes light the light in the Greater Orient of Austria .

On November 27, 1985, six women were finally accepted into the two new boxes, the traditional UFML box will remain a men's box until March 2004, but with express visiting rights for sisters.

After successful Masonic work, all three founding lodges of the Greater Orient of Austria declared their departure in 2003 in order to reorient their Masonic goals (September 9 to the new duties , September 23 UFML , September 30 Gotthold Ephraim ).
In close cooperation but without obedience , they continued their work until they merged on St. John's Day , June 24, 2007 to form the Liberal Grand Lodge of Austria (LGL).

This is intended to document in all forms to the Masonic world that there are lodges and obedience in Austria which, despite all traditional awareness , want to promote and live a modern, democratic world of coexistence, responsible independence and joint international activity.

On June 14, 2007, the Liberal Grand Lodge of Austria, together with other obediences, founded the organization AACEE, which is supposed to support and promote the development of Freemasonry in Central and Eastern Europe.

In October 2007, the Liberal Grand Lodge of Austria again applied for membership in the international organization CLIPSAS, which was co-founded by its original lodge UFML in 1961 .

The Liberal Grand Lodge of Austria has been a member of CLIPSAS (again) since May 21, 2011.

On March 1, 2013, the lodge has Europe kindled their light, on 10 April 2014, the light in the lodge was LOGOS introduced
