Vincke is the name of an old Westphalian noble family .

history

The name of the sex was derived from the finch , the passerine bird, but earlier also the name for songbirds in general. There were still several noble families with this name, but they differed in spelling, origin or coat of arms.

The family is first mentioned in 1223 with the knight Heinrich Vincke in an Osnabrück document. Later, members of the Burgmannen and Droste family of the Counts of Ravensberg and the Prince-Bishops of Osnabrück , as well as high officials from their legal successors, were appointed.

Over time, they acquired extensive property in Westphalia, including in 1343 (to this day) the Ostenwalde estate near Melle with the Diedrichsburg and, also since the 14th century, the Kilver family (until 1818) and since the middle of the 18th century Until 1979 Vellinghausen Castle and from 1771 to 1820 also Gut Böckel and Gut Waghorst . The Vornholz house , built by the Vincke, was in their possession from 1330 to 1481 .

The predicate of as a sign of nobility was only included in the name in the 18th century, in isolated cases even earlier. For example, some members called for the Prussian confirmation of customary law carried Freiherr title in the 19th century, just Barons Vincke.

Gender has produced important members. The Upper President of the Westphalia Province, Ludwig von Vincke (1774–1844), descends from the line to Ostenwalde . The Prussian lieutenant colonel and politician Karl Friedrich Freiherr von Vincke (1800–1869) came from the Olbendorf line . He accompanied Helmuth von Moltke to Turkey in 1838 and took part in the war against Egypt. In 1850 he became a member of the Erfurt Union Parliament and since 1858 a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .
