Guy Palmade

Guy Pierre Jean Palmade (born August 27, 1927 in Mazerolles-du-Razès , † 1993 ) was a French historian .

Life

Guy Palmade attended high schools in Auch and Toulouse . Palmade studied history at the École normal supérieure (ENS) since 1946 and received his agrégation in 1951 . He first worked as a high school teacher in Cahors (1951), then as Agrégé-répétiteur at the ENS (from 1952) and as an assistant at the Sorbonne (Institut d´Études Politiques, from 1957) and as Maître assistant at the ENS (from 1963) . In 1968 he was appointed General Inspector for Public Education ( Inspecteur général de l'instruction publique ). From 1969 to 1972 he was technical advisor in the Ministry of Education under Olivier Guichard and from 1973 to 1976 director of the Institut national de recherche et de documentation pédagogiques (INRDP) in Paris, then dean of its social science department.

Palmade dealt as a historian with the history of the Second Empire and capitalism in France in the 19th century, as well as with general historiography .
