Guido von Penthièvre ( French Guy de Penthièvre , * 1287 ; † March 27, 1331 ) was Vice Count of Limoges and later Count of Penthièvre .

He was the second son of Duke Arthur II of Brittany and Vice Countess Marie of Limoges. He is also called Guido von Bretagne or Guido von Dreux after his father .

In 1314 he received the maternal vice-county of Limoges , which until then his older brother Johann III. had ruled from Brittany and called himself Guido VII of Limoges . As early as 1314, the same brother forced him to cede the vice-county to his wife Isabella of Castile . In return, he received the Breton county of Penthièvre .

Since Johann III. had no children, Guido was for many years his heir as Duke of Brittany . However, he died before Johann, so that he himself did not become a duke. Heiress became Guido's daughter Johanna, whose claims were however contested by his younger brother Johann von Montfort : The Breton Succession War that broke out in 1341 only ended with the death of Guido's son-in-law Karl von Blois in 1364 and the victory of the son of Johann von Montfort, Johann V. .

Marriages and offspring

In 1318 Guido married Johanna von Avaugour (* 1300, † 1327), mistress of Goëllo , daughter of Henrich IV, master of Avaugour, with whom he had a daughter:

  • Johanna (* 1319; † 1384), Countess of Penthièvre, from 1337 Duchess of Brittany ∞ Karl von Blois (* 1319; † 1364).

After the death of his first wife, he married the noblewoman Johanna von Belleville, but this marriage was annulled by the Pope in 1330.
