György Lakatos (table tennis official)

György Lakatos (born May 27, 1918 in Budapest ; † July 9, 2001 ) was a Hungarian table tennis official . He was an honorary member of the European Table Tennis Association ETTU and the World Association ITTF.

National

In 1945 Lakatos became general secretary in the Hungarian Table Tennis Association . From 1951 he worked on the board. From 1957 to 1976 he was Vice President and in 1976 he was elected President. For his services to the sport of Presidential Council of the Hungarian National Assembly in 1981 awarded him the Golden stage of labor Merit . In 1985 he was honored by the Hungarian Office for Sport and Physical Education. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, he received the national Order of Merit with a Small Cross .

International

Lakatos was one of the founding members of the European Table Tennis Association ETTU in 1957 . He immediately took on responsibility, initially as an assessor and from 1980 as vice-president. Two years later he became president to succeed Jupp Schlaf . He held this office until 1986, when he was replaced by Mihovil Kapetanic . At the same time he became an ETTU honorary member. Lakatos was significantly involved in the introduction of the European ranking tournament TOP12 .

At the same time he worked in the world association ITTF as chairman of the classification committee.

Private

Lakatos holds a PhD in Philosophy and Law. By profession he was an editor at the Kossuth publishing house in Budapest. He has written articles on the humanities that have been translated into several languages.
