The Hochdahl grammar school is a grammar school in the Hochdahl district of the city of Erkrath .

The Hochdahl High School is currently attended by 808 students who are taught by 82 teachers.
construction
The grammar school is integrated in the Hochdahl school center, which also houses a secondary school and a secondary school . The school complex comprises a total of three separate buildings, one for each type of school, three outdoor sports fields and three gyms. The building of the Hochdahl high school has five floors and three playgrounds (north, east and west courtyard), which are used by different age groups of students. The grammar school has an auditorium , two music rooms, three IT rooms, a large computer room, a cafeteria and a library .
history
The Hochdahl grammar school was founded on February 20, 1969. The Minister of Education of North Rhine-Westphalia Fritz Holthoff approved a state grammar school in Hochdahl and appointed Theodor Boddenberg to head the school.
The opening took place about six months later on August 25, 1969 with 60 students in two classes who were housed in temporary rooms on Unterbacher Strasse. Shortly afterwards, the Association of Friends and Sponsors was founded, which still exists today and supports the school with money or donations in kind.
In 1974 construction work began on the independent school building on Rankestrasse, which was completed two years later.
In 1975 the sponsorship started with the high school Collège du Pont de Bois in St. Chéron, France . After lively correspondence between the students and their Israeli peers (which contributed significantly to the improvement of the German-Israeli relationship, traveling exhibition "Letters to Young Germans"), the partnership with the Tichon Chadash grammar school in Tel Aviv , Israel, was established in 1977 .
As a premiere, the first graduate class was adopted in 1978.
After the deputy headmaster Winter had retired in 1991, his successor Jürgen Selle took his place. Boddenberg resigned in 1996 after a 27-year term in office; Peter-Michael Minnema was appointed as his successor.
As a donation from Hewlett-Packard , the school received a modern networked computer system in 1997.
At the Netd @ ys 1999 the Internet-AG won the 5th cash prize out of 164 participating schools from North Rhine-Westphalia .
In the same year, Japanese calligraphy was created in a joint venture with the Japanese International School in Düsseldorf and marketed as part of a stock corporation.
In 2001 Peter-Michael Minnema left school for health reasons and switched to the Steinbart-Gymnasium in Duisburg. Jürgen Selle became the provisional headmaster. In April 2002 Dieter Smolka took over as the new headmaster . On February 1, 2006, the deputy headmaster Selle retired. He was succeeded by Friederike von Wiser. From February 2008 to summer 2012 Reinhard Schürmann was the deputy headmaster, until he moved to the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Velbert as headmaster on August 1st, 2012. After Dieter Smolka, Christof Krügermann took over the management of the school on February 1, 2015. Ricarda Thöne has been the deputy headmistress since 2018.

The Hochdahl high school is particularly committed to remembering the Holocaust . The Holocaust survivors Adolf Burger and Sally Perel are regularly invited to give lectures. A whole corridor of the high school is taken up by a permanent exhibition that documents an exchange of letters between students of the school and citizens of Jerusalem .
